How can I help keep my community clean and green?
- Don't litter!
- Use the three R's
- Reduce- don't use as much of the product.
- Reuse- reuse the product container as much as you can.
- Recycle- when you're done, recycle it!
- Dubuque's recycling service accepts numbers 1 through 5 and 7
materials. Just look at the number inside the triangle at the bottom of
the product.
- This website, from the Dubuque 'Landfill', explains what is and is not recyclable: http://dmaswa.org/services_recycleguide.cfm
- This video, from the Dubuque Community School District, explains how you can go green at home:
- Participate in a community clean-up day.
- No community clean-up event? Schedule one yourself!
- Know of a place that needs to be cleaned-up? Tell us about it!

Clean-up Supplies Available
The
Dubuque Metropolitan Area Solid Waste Agency (DMASWA) offers the use of
safety vests, litter grabbers, gloves and collection bags to those
individuals and/or groups who are interested in cleaning up problem
areas in their neighborhoods. Materials can be checked out from the
Solid Waste Education Office free of charge. This is a
cooperative effort between Keep Dubuque County Clean and Green, DMASWA,
Dubuque County Secondary Roads Department, Dubuque County Board of
Supervisors, and the City of Dubuque.DMASWA will provide
the materials and free disposal fees and the Secondary Roads Department
and the City of Dubuque Public Works Department will pick up the
collected materials and deliver them to the landfill. Arrangements must
be made ahead of time for pick up of materials following a cleanup. An
information form and liability waiver needs to be signed by all parties
participating in the cleanup. For more information and to schedule
materials for a cleanup program, contact the Solid Waste Education
Coordinator by email or by calling 563-588-7933.
